Brenda McGuire
My name is Brenda McGuire, and I am an Executive Secretary, Freelance Graphic Designer, Community Builder, and run a small business with my husband. I am the General Administrative Coordinator I for Catawba Hospital’s Facility Director (CEO), Assistant Director (COO), and QM/RM Director. I am originally from California but have called the Roanoke Valley home since 2006. I have about 30 years of experience in administrative roles for various industries: environmental laboratories, banking, substance use, insurance, human resources, and now mental health. I started out of high school with the desire to be a chemist, so I spent a couple of years as a sample prep technician at an environmental laboratory! I have traveled a bit and lived in many states before settling here in the valley. I’ve taken some college courses at the University of Montana in Social Work, Business, and General Education. I have a degree in communications design from Virginia Western. ​​​​​​​
I am married and have four adult stepchildren and one grandson (who calls me Mimi and melts my heart). My youngest stepson (Izrael), sister (Mandy) and her dog (Kyah) live with my husband (Jason) and I in the house we recently purchased in Vinton, VA. When not working, my husband and I like to go to ComiCons, watch Doctor Who or Star Trek, and work on the never-ending list of projects to do on our new forever home. My current personal goals include learning more about home improvement, making it to the top of Dragon’s Tooth, picking up the flute again, and learn more about environmentally friendly landscaping.
